A Story Sewn By Hand

THE STORY BEHIND THE SIX YARD PROJECT

A love for creating, a passion for sustainability, and a family tradition came together in one unexpected place: my mom’s closet.

I've been sewing and creating since I was eight years old. Over the years, my interests grew to include sustainability, fabrics, and the business side of making things. I always knew I wanted to create something of my own. I just hadn’t found the idea that brought all of my passions together.

Until I looked at my mom’s sari collection a little differently.

SIX YARDS, GENERATIONS OF STORIES

It started with a closet full of saris.

One day, I was looking through my mom's sari collection and noticed how many beautiful saris hadn't been worn in years. They were too special to give away, too beautiful to sit unused, and too meaningful to simply let go of.

I started wondering: What if these six yards of fabric could become something new while still carrying the story of where they came from?

FROM SARI TO SOMETHING NEW

So I picked a sari and started creating.

With my mom's permission, I used one of her saris to design my first bag. I sketched, experimented, sewed, and learned along the way.

For the first time, I had found a way to bring together everything I loved—sewing, creativity, sustainability, business, and tradition.

And just like that-  The Six Yard Project was born.

MADE TO CARRY FORWARD

I wanted to create something that could be loved for years.

A sari can become a bag carried to an event, a place to keep jewelry while traveling, a makeup bag, an everyday accessory, or a thoughtful gift.

My hope is that each bag gets a life of its own—and that the story doesn't end when the sari is transformed. It simply becomes a new chapter.

CREATING WITH PURPOSE

The Six Yard Project is about more than giving beautiful saris a new life. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Chastain Conservancy, which helps protect green spaces and supports the parks, events, and programs in the community.

THE NEXT CHAPTER

The story started with my mom's sari. Now, it gets to continue with you.

I imagine these bags being gifted, carried, traveled with, and eventually passed on to someone else.

That's what I love most about this project: something that was once part of one story can become part of another.

I'm excited to finally share something I've put so much time and heart into.

Welcome to The Six Yard Project.

Sustainability

I work with saris that have already lived a life, so nothing new has to be made for something new to be created. It's a small way of saying that beautiful things don't have to be thrown away just because they've been set aside.

Craftsmanship

Every bag is made the same way: one at a time, by hand.  I've spent years learning to make things look beautiful, so I make sure each piece is nicely crafted. No two turn out exactly alike, because each sari is ornated diferently.

Giving Back

Passing it forward.
A portion of every sale goes to the Chastain Conservatory, a community that helps young people connect, grow, and create — the same kind of space that helped shape who I am. It felt right to build that into The Six Yard Project from the start.
